Today we will learn two important concepts: upthrust and buoyancy.
When something is in water, there are two forces acting on it. Its weight and the force of the water pushing up, the upthrust.
What is upthrust?
Upthrust is any force that is causing something to be pushed upwards.
What is buoyancy?
Buoyancy is an object’s ability to float in water or air. Whether or not an object is buoyant relies mostly on two factors. These are the amount of water an object displaces and the density of an object.
